This customer in Haverfordwest had struggled to find a gardener who'd do proper weeding. Mowing and hedge-cutting are easy to find. Someone who knows their weeds and will take the time to pick through a bed is much rarer.
The bed sits right by the front door, so it's the first thing visitors see. Grass and weeds had grown up through it, and mint and bulbs they didn't want had spread across it. They wanted to keep their irises, so we couldn't just strip it all out. We went through it by hand, keeping the irises and taking out the rest, then topped the bed with fresh compost.
It took just over an hour, start to finish. The first thing visitors see now is a bed that looks cared for, which is exactly the first impression they wanted. They were delighted, and we were glad to help.
What we did
- Weeded the whole bed by the front door by hand
- Picked out the grass and weeds that had grown up between the plants
- Kept the irises the customer wanted to hold on to
- Dug out the mint that had spread through the bed
- Lifted the other bulbs the customer didn't want
- Spread fresh compost across the bed to finish it off
- Finished the job in just over an hour
