An overgrown hedge cleared and a border rebuilt in slate, near Whitland

This bed sits right where the customer sees when they sit out in their back garden, so it's an important place to get right. The hedge at the front of the border, by the slate, had become big and unmanageable, getting in the way of the footpath.
We cut the hedge out completely, roots and all, along with some other plants underneath that weren't doing the bed any favours. Underneath it all, the border itself was small and uneven to begin with.
The customer had their own slate left over, so we used it to build up and expand the border, then planted it out properly. What was a scrappy, overgrown corner is now a proper feature bed with real shape to it, and it's no longer creeping into the path.
What we did
- Removed a large, overgrown hedge growing at the front of the border, by the slate
- Cleared out unwanted plants growing underneath the hedge
- Built up and expanded the border using slate supplied by the customer
- Replanted the border with a mix of new plants
- Completed the job in around half a day

Cutting the hedge out completely.

Underneath was an uneven bed of weeds.

A closer look at what was left in the border once the hedge was out. It needed clearing right back before we could rebuild it.

The finished border, built up and expanded with the customer's own slate and planted out properly. A cluttered corner turned into a proper feature bed.
